Description

OSCAR winner John Wayne (True Grit) took an early step to stardom in this 1936 Western reuniting him with Mack V. Wright, who directed his Haunted Gold, Somewhere in Sonora, and The Man from Monterey. As the telegraph takes over, each Pony Express rider is given two horses as a reward, so Johnny Blair (Wayne) and Larry Adams (Lane Chandler) buy a run-down stageline from Cal Drake (Douglas Cosgrove). Realizing they’ve been cheated, they race Drake to Sacramento for a $25,000 government mail contract, with Barbara Forsythe (Phyllis Fraser) cheering them on as they revitalize the ghost town of Crescent City.
